“Joseph Cyr Captures a Stunning Cactus That Appears to Preach”

Joseph Cyr is a language instructor at a high school in the United States. Originally from South Korea, he spent his formative years in various locations, including Germany and different states in the U.S., such as Georgia and Arizona. “As an adult, I have resided in Seattle, Paris, and Nicaragua before returning to Arizona,” he shared. “This photograph was taken in Saguaro National Park, located just north of Tucson, approximately an hour away from the U.S.-Mexico border.”

During a school break, Cyr embarked on a trail run, capturing the image amidst a tranquil setting where he encountered only a few horseback riders and a solitary saguaro cactus. The saguaro, the largest cactus species in the United States, is native to the Sonoran Desert, home to Saguaro National Park.

Cyr finds the sheer size of the cactus to be breathtaking, yet he also appreciates the humorous aspects of nature. “Not everything in nature is ‘sublime and majestic.’ It can be clumsy and whimsical, yet still leave us in awe,” he remarked.
