The father of Queen Mary of Denmark, who was born in Australia, has passed away at the age of 84 in Tasmania.

During her recent royal visit to Australia last month, she had the opportunity to see him for the last time.

The family has announced plans for a private memorial service to honor Professor John Donaldson, which will take place at a later date.

In a heartfelt statement, Queen Mary expressed her sorrow over the loss of her “dear father,” who died in Hobart.

Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, an esteemed professor of applied mathematics, was born in Scotland on September 5, 1941, as noted by the Royal House of Denmark.

His health had been deteriorating in recent years, and Queen Mary last visited him in March during a royal tour with her husband, King Frederik.

In her statement, the queen shared, “My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are grey. My beloved father has passed away. However, I find comfort in knowing that as the sorrow eases, the memories will bring light to my days, and what will endure most strongly is the love and gratitude for all he imparted to me.”

The family will organize a private memorial service in memory of him in the future.
