During their match on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium, players from the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru donned black armbands as a tribute to the esteemed Indian vocalist Asha Bhosle, who passed away that day at Breach Candy Hospital. She had been admitted the previous evening due to severe fatigue and a chest infection. The match also included a moment of silence to honor the 92-year-old artist.
The official account of the Indian Premier League (IPL) acknowledged her contributions, stating, “IPL pays tribute to legendary music icon Asha Bhosale, whose timeless voice defined generations and enriched India’s cultural heritage. Players from @mipaltan and @RCBTweets wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence before Match 20 in her honour. Her legacy will continue to resonate across eras.” Bhosle’s death signifies the conclusion of a remarkable musical career that lasted over eighty years.
Asha Bhosle’s funeral is scheduled for Monday. Her son, Anand Bhosle, informed reporters outside the hospital, “She passed away today. Those who wish to pay their last respects can visit her residence tomorrow at 11 am. The last rites will be conducted at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.”
In preparation for the funeral, approximately 50 police officers have been assigned to the area around Breach Candy Hospital to ensure public safety. Security measures are being organized for the funeral, which will include arrangements along the route from Bhosle’s home to Shivaji Park, as well as at Dadar station to manage anticipated crowds.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will oversee the funeral arrangements, and police presence will be established at the venue. The list of distinguished guests expected to pay their respects at Bhosle’s home and those attending the funeral is still being compiled. An officer mentioned, “Once the details are confirmed, police personnel will be deployed along the route from her residence to Shivaji Park.”
