Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Assures Steady LPG Supply in Capital as Backlogs are Addressed.

On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reassured the city’s residents that the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains stable. She reported that 111,000 bookings were made, and 130,000 cylinders were distributed on Sunday, emphasizing that existing backlogs are being addressed.

Gupta explained that the distribution network throughout the capital is operating effectively, with sufficient stock available. She urged citizens to remain calm, dismissing any rumors that may cause unnecessary alarm.

“On April 12, we recorded 111,766 bookings, while the three oil marketing companies delivered 130,094 cylinders, surpassing the number of bookings. This reflects the efficient clearing of backlogs and the strength of our supply chain. The average delivery time has decreased from 4.24 days to 3.87 days, ensuring that cylinders reach homes promptly,” the Chief Minister stated.

For commercial use, Delhi has been allocated 6,480 LPG cylinders (19 kg) daily. However, the average daily consumption over the past week has been only 4,268 cylinders, including 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders, indicating that supply is outpacing demand, as per government data.

Gupta also requested commercial LPG users, particularly those utilizing 5 kg cylinders, to refrain from unnecessary worry and stockpiling.

In addition, the Food and Civil Supplies department has established a dedicated control room to assist with access issues. Commercial users experiencing difficulties in obtaining cylinders can reach out to 011-23379836 or 8383824659 between 9 am and 7 pm daily.

The government has also encouraged consumers and institutions to consider switching to piped natural gas (PNG) where available, as it offers a consistent and reliable fuel supply. Bulk consumers, including hospitals and educational institutions, are advised to transition to PNG promptly to improve efficiency, safety, and supply reliability.

“Furthermore, we are encouraging consumers to explore electric or induction cooking options as a sustainable long-term alternative to ensure a steady energy supply,” an official added.

Gupta reiterated that her administration is closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis and remains dedicated to maintaining an uninterrupted LPG supply throughout the capital.
