The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, inaugurated India’s first indigenous quantum computing testing facility at SRM University in Amaravati on Tuesday. This initiative is expected to establish the Amaravati Quantum Valley as a prominent international center for quantum computing.
During the event, Naidu observed the activation of a live quantum system, where the cooling process of the processor for the Amaravati 1Q system was initiated remotely. This system is located at Medha Towers in Gannavaram. Concurrently, the Amaravati 1S system operated as an open-access platform, allowing all attendees to witness the demonstration firsthand. The establishment of the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility signifies that India now possesses its own sovereign quantum infrastructure, according to official sources.
The Amaravati Quantum Valley, which is a key project under India’s National Quantum Mission, is set to host an IBM 133-qubit quantum computer. It has already formed over 80 partnerships with various industries and academic institutions, positioning itself among the top five quantum hubs globally. The launch of the AQRF on World Quantum Day adds a crucial hardware aspect to the offerings of Amaravati Quantum Valley, enhancing its existing capabilities in quantum cloud services, skill development, and innovation, as noted by officials.
