Inflation in Colombo rises to 2.2% as of March 2026

The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) has reported an increase in the annual inflation rate, rising to 2.2% in March 2026, up from 1.6% in February 2026. This information was published by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS).

For March 2026, the CCPI for all categories was recorded at 195.8, reflecting a rise of 0.5 index points from February’s figure of 195.3.

Additionally, the year-on-year inflation rate for the Food Group saw a rise to 0.7% in March 2026, compared to 0.2% in the previous month. In contrast, the Non-Food Group’s year-on-year inflation increased to 2.9% in March, up from 2.3% in February 2026.

According to the DCS, for March 2026, the inflation contribution from food items was 0.23%, while non-food items contributed 1.97% to the overall inflation rate.
