The Firozabad police department in Uttar Pradesh conducted a comprehensive operation across the district on Saturday targeting public alcohol consumption, resulting in the arrest of 559 individuals and legal proceedings initiated against 424 of them. According to officials, this extensive initiative was executed simultaneously in various police jurisdictions.
Police forces were strategically positioned at crucial points such as marketplaces, highways, bus terminals, railway stations, and busy crossroads known for frequent incidents of public drinking and disturbances.
A senior police official remarked, “Individuals found consuming alcohol in public and causing disturbances were identified and taken action against in accordance with the law. The aim is to enhance safety and order in public spaces.”
Of the 559 individuals detained, 424 received challans under the Police Act’s section 34 (pertaining to road offences) and section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (related to public nuisance). The remaining individuals were released after being issued stern warnings against future violations.
The highest number of detentions within the city limits occurred in the Dakshin police station area, with 75 arrests, followed by 30 in Uttar, 22 in both Rasoolpur and Ramgarh.
In the Tundla area, police detained 52 individuals, while the rural regions of Pachokhra and Sirsaganj each saw 25 arrests. Additionally, Narkhi recorded 23 detentions and Nagla Singh had 20.
Within the Sirsaganj jurisdiction, 55 people were apprehended in Sirsaganj, 22 in Narkhi Khas, 15 in Jasrana, and 3 in Araon. The police confirmed that a significant number of those detained faced charges under applicable legal statutes.
This extensive crackdown was initiated under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Langeh, with senior officials overseeing the operation across both urban and rural settings.
The police stated that this initiative is part of an ongoing campaign, featuring regular checks, surprise inspections, and increased patrolling, especially in identified hotspots, to discourage infractions.
Furthermore, the police emphasized that the visible enforcement of these regulations aims to convey a clear message that public drinking and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and that strict penalties will be imposed for violations.
