On Sunday, the United States Secret Service announced it was looking into reports of gunfire that occurred overnight in the vicinity of Lafayette Park, located directly across from the White House.
According to the agency’s statement posted online, there were no injuries reported, and following a thorough search of the park and the adjacent areas after midnight, no suspects were located.
During this time, former President Donald Trump was at the White House, which did not provide any immediate comments regarding the situation. Operations at the White House continued as usual, although the Secret Service indicated that security measures in the area had been heightened.
Lafayette Park has been under renovation and consequently fenced off for several weeks.
The Secret Service is collaborating with both the District of Columbia Police and the United States Park Police in their investigation.
