Tragedy Strikes in Himachal’s Kullu: Tourist Vehicle Falls into Gorge, Claiming Three Lives and Injuring Many Others

On Saturday night in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, a tragic accident claimed the lives of three tourists, including two women, and left at least 19 others injured when a tourist vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred near Jaloda, in proximity to Sojha, along the Aut–Luhri–Sainj National Highway-305.

The victims have been identified as Deepali from Vishnu Garden, Delhi; Simran from Kota, Rajasthan; and Amit Kumar from Adarsh Nagar, West Delhi.

According to law enforcement officials, the tempo traveller was transporting approximately 24 tourists who had rented the vehicle in Delhi. They were on their way back from Jalori Jot when the accident transpired. The injured individuals have been taken to Banjar Hospital for treatment, with some requiring transfer to the Regional Hospital in Kullu for more specialized care.

Authorities indicated that poor weather conditions and a slippery road surface contributed to the driver losing control, resulting in the vehicle’s descent into the gorge. The crash’s impact was devastating, leading to the vehicle being extensively damaged.

Surender Shourie, the local MLA for Banjar, visited the scene alongside other administrative officials. Kullu’s Superintendent of Police, Madan Lal Kaushal, confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the driver involved in the incident.

Upon notification of the crash, local administrative personnel and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Banjar swiftly arrived at the site. They conducted rescue operations, assisting in retrieving the injured from the gorge.

Anurag Chandra Sharma, Kullu’s Deputy Commissioner, stated that police and administrative teams responded promptly upon receiving the distress call. “All the injured were transported to Banjar Hospital for medical attention,” he noted.

Pankaj Sharma, the Sub Divisional Magistrate, informed that rescue efforts by police, the fire department, and local administration commenced rapidly and continued well into the night. He also mentioned that the injured are being directed to higher-level medical facilities according to the seriousness of their injuries.
