2026 JEE Main Exam Review (April 6): Students Describe Question Difficulty as Well-Distributed, Ranging from Easy to Moderate

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has successfully completed the first shift of the JEE Main Session Two examination on April 6. According to feedback from students and educators, the exam was characterized by an overall difficulty level ranging from easy to moderate. Specifically, the Physics and Mathematics sections were deemed relatively straightforward, whereas the Chemistry section presented a moderate challenge. The question paper was well-balanced, featuring a diverse array of topics from various chapters.

Ujjwal Singh, the founding CEO of Infinity Learn by Sri Chaitanya, commented on the exam’s difficulty, describing it as “moderate and somewhat easier than previous shifts.” He emphasized that students’ success hinged more on their speed, accuracy, and strategic approaches rather than the complexity of the questions.

Examining the individual subjects, Singh indicated that the Physics section was easy to moderate, consisting primarily of direct, formula-based questions, which could lead to high scores for well-prepared candidates. He noted that the Chemistry section was evenly distributed and closely aligned with the NCERT syllabus; however, the Physical Chemistry questions tended to be more calculation-intensive. Regarding Mathematics, Singh observed that while the concepts were clear, the questions were lengthy, making intelligent question selection essential for success.

Ajay Sharma, who serves as the national academic director of the engineering division at Aakash Educational Services Limited, echoed the assessment of the exam’s difficulty as easy to moderate. He remarked that the Physics questions were accessible, covering major chapters with an emphasis on Electromagnetism and Mechanics, while questions on Optics and Waves were less frequent.

Sharma detailed the coverage of topics within Physics, stating, “Electromagnetic Waves, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics were well represented, including some statement-based questions. However, Fluid Mechanics was absent, and the Modern Physics section featured questions focused on Atomic Structure and Semiconductors, along with a few on Oscillations.”

Turning to the Chemistry section, Sharma classified it as moderate in difficulty, noting that the questions were well-distributed among Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry. He pointed out that while many questions were straightforward, some numerical problems required significant calculations, which could be time-consuming. A number of questions were directly sourced from the NCERT materials, with a strong representation of Inorganic Chemistry, particularly concerning Coordination Compounds and the d- and f-block elements. The level of difficulty for Organic Chemistry questions was standard.

Regarding Mathematics, Sharma characterized the section as easy, highlighting that Integral Calculus, Conic Sections, and Algebra received greater emphasis. Other topics, including 3D Geometry, Probability, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Vectors, Complex Numbers, and Differential Calculus, were represented at an average level. Algebra had a slightly higher emphasis, while Coordinate Geometry was covered to a moderate extent.
