A comprehensive search operation involving land, air, and water resources is currently in progress to locate a man who has gone missing in floodwaters in the remote northern region of South Australia.
The individual, identified as 65-year-old Tony, was last spotted around midday on Easter Saturday in Innamincka, situated in the northeastern part of the state. He was reportedly attempting to cross the closed Cordillo Downs Road on foot when he was swept away by the rising floodwaters.
Authorities have expressed serious concerns for Tony’s safety and are actively working to find him.
Assisting in the search efforts are Polair, water operations units, the South Australia Police, and local SES members, along with community volunteers and residents.
Today, Senior Constable Daniel Issacson expressed hope for a positive outcome, stating, “Hopefully we’re going to get to Tony soon.”
Innamincka is located approximately 1,065 kilometers from Adelaide by road and is about 40 kilometers from the Queensland border.
The Cooper Creek system near Innamincka continues to experience flooding, with fast-moving waters creating submerged hazards and limited visibility, according to police reports.
Authorities describe Tony as a Caucasian male, approximately 156 centimeters tall with a slim physique and blonde hair styled with a rat’s tail. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a red hat, a black short-sleeved shirt, and dark trousers.
Police have confirmed they are in touch with Tony’s family and are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to reach out to the authorities.
