Eva Lasrini, a 53-year-old resident of Dandenong, was reported missing on Thursday, and her body was discovered on Saturday in a location southwest of Melbourne. Her death has left her community mourning the loss of a devoted mother who was described as deserving of a life filled with safety and happiness.
In the wake of her passing, a friend of Ms. Lasrini, Gail Porter, has launched a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting her two daughters, Evindra and Vanya. According to Ms. Porter, the girls are currently in Indonesia and face significant challenges as they cope with the death of their mother, who was their primary source of love and support. “With no other family to turn to, they are navigating this heartbreaking loss completely on their own,” Ms. Porter stated on the GoFundMe page.
In connection with Ms. Lasrini’s death, a 67-year-old man named Allen Keys has been charged with murder. He was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Friday while attempting to board an international flight. Mr. Keys made a court appearance at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday evening and has been remanded in custody, with his next court date set for August 10.
Authorities reported that Ms. Lasrini had not been in touch with her family prior to being reported missing. On Saturday afternoon, detectives from the Missing Persons Squad located her body near Little River Road and the Princes Freeway, approximately 46 kilometers from Melbourne’s central business district. While the body has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing woman.
Additionally, a representative from the Indonesian Consulate-General in Melbourne has indicated that they are collaborating with the Department of Home Affairs and Victoria Police to expedite the visa process for Ms. Lasrini’s daughters, allowing them to come to Australia during this difficult time.
In a social media post from February, Ms. Lasrini expressed her enthusiasm for learning English, stating, “The Australian government has given me a great opportunity to increase my value and improve myself, and I don’t want to waste that opportunity.”
