The IPL 2026 Points Table has been revised following a rain-affected match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday night, which ended without a result. This outcome allowed Punjab Kings to ascend to the top of the standings, earning them a point from the abandoned game.
Due to relentless rain, only 22 balls were bowled during the match. Kolkata Knight Riders, after winning the toss, chose to bat first but could only manage to lose two wickets before the weather intervened, cutting short any further play. Punjab Kings, who began their campaign with a victory over Gujarat Titans, had previously achieved an impressive chase of 210 runs against Chennai Super Kings at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium, last week. With a strong and consistent lineup, Punjab secured the top position in the league standings last year as well, suffering just three losses before narrowly missing out on the title by six runs in the final.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ struggles continued as they remain winless in the tournament. However, the abandoned match allowed them to earn their first point, elevating them above Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in the table. Prior to the match, KKR made two adjustments to their squad, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine unavailable due to injury and illness, respectively. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane commented on their absence, stating that Chakaravarthy sustained an injury while catching a ball in the previous game, and Narine was unwell. In their place, West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell and experienced pacer Navdeep Saini, who had recently joined as a replacement, stepped into the playing eleven.
