Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Propel RR to Second Quickest IPL Team Fifty Against MI in Just 2.4 Overs

On a rain-soaked evening in Guwahati, the Rajasthan Royals delivered an astonishing performance against the Mumbai Indians, achieving the fastest team fifty in IPL history during their match on Tuesday night.

Due to the weather, the match was shortened to 11 overs per side and commenced shortly after 10 PM. Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, chose to bowl first, allowing Rajasthan’s opening pair, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, to embark on an explosive start.

Jaiswal ignited the fireworks by striking four boundaries and a six in the very first over bowled by seamer Deepak Chahar. Meanwhile, 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi faced his first delivery from renowned Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, launching a six right away, followed by another maximum in the same over.

Notable records include:

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore – 2.3 overs vs KTK, 2011
  • Rajasthan Royals – 2.4 overs vs KKR, 2023
  • Rajasthan Royals – 2.4 overs vs MI, 2026*
  • Kings XI Punjab – 2.5 overs vs DD, 2018

Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal continued their assault, hitting left-arm seamer Trent Boult for three sixes in the next over, allowing RR to reach the 50-run milestone in just 2.4 overs. This achievement matched their fastest fifty in IPL history and marked the second quickest overall in the tournament. Last year, RR had a similar explosive start against Kolkata Knight Riders when Jaiswal recorded the fastest fifty in IPL history, needing only 13 balls.

The six sixes hit by Rajasthan in the opening three overs set a new record for the most sixes in that timeframe in IPL history.

Jaiswal reached his fifty in just 23 balls, while Sooryavanshi, with his first six, made history in the IPL, surpassing Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan to become the leading six-hitter among teenagers in the tournament’s annals, accumulating 35 sixes in just 10 innings.

Most sixes by a teenager in IPL history:

  • 35* – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (10 innings)
  • 30 – Rishabh Pant (24 innings)
  • 30 – Ishan Kishan (27 innings)
  • 22 – Sanju Samson (23 innings)
