Channel 4 has announced that the concluding episode of the celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off, featuring radio DJ Scott Mills, will not be aired. This decision follows Mills’ recent dismissal from his role as the host of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show due to newly uncovered information regarding his conduct.
Mills, aged 53, was let go from the BBC last month after the organization became aware of a police investigation involving historical allegations of sexual abuse, which first came to light in 2017. The BBC stated that it terminated his contract in March as part of its commitment to uphold its cultural values.
Prior to his dismissal, Mills had completed filming for The Great Celebrity Bake Off, with the episode scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday, April 19. In a statement, Channel 4 explained, “After careful consideration of the situation, we have decided not to air the final episode of the 2026 series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, featuring Scott Mills. Given the seriousness of the allegations against him, we believe it is not appropriate to air the episode at this time. An alternative episode of Celebrity GBBO will be shown instead.”
In the fifth episode of the baking competition, Mills was set to compete alongside singer-songwriter Rag’n’Bone Man, radio DJ Edith Bowman, and JLS member Aston Merrygold.
Mills was under investigation since 2016 regarding allegations of serious sexual offences involving a minor under 16. This inquiry concluded in 2019 when the Crown Prosecution Service determined that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with charges. The Metropolitan Police reported that the alleged incidents occurred between 1997 and 2000, during Mills’ twenties. The initial complaint was lodged in Hampshire, where Mills is originally from. Although he was interviewed under caution in 2018, no charges were filed against him.
Following Mills’ termination, the BBC acknowledged that it had been aware of the police investigation since 2017, but stated that it acted swiftly after receiving new information shortly before his dismissal.
In light of his dismissal, Mills has stepped back from his role as an ambassador for the MS Society UK, and the children’s cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK has opted to sever ties with him, having had him as a patron since 2021. Additionally, he has been removed as the host of the BBC’s upcoming Race Across the World spin-off podcast.
The 2026 season of The Great Celebrity Bake Off has been airing weekly since March 22, featuring various celebrities including Molly-Mae Hague, JoJo Siwa, and Vicky Pattison competing in the tent.
Last week, Mills released a statement addressing the allegations, stating, “An allegation was made against me in 2016 concerning a historical sexual offence, which was investigated by the police. I fully cooperated with the inquiry and provided my response in 2018. As the police have confirmed, a file of evidence was presented to the Crown Prosecution Service, which concluded that the evidence was insufficient to bring charges. Since this investigation pertains to an allegation dating back nearly 30 years and was closed seven years ago, I hope that the public and media will respect my desire to refrain from further public comments.”
