Four Arrested, Including One Woman, in Connection with 16.8 kg Heroin Seizure in Phagwara

The police in Kapurthala have reportedly dismantled a narcotics trafficking operation linked to Pakistan, resulting in the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, and the confiscation of 16.8 kilograms of heroin.

On Tuesday, Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, announced that the detained suspects are Balwinder Singh from Pandori Mohalla in Sultanpur Lodhi, Sumanpreet Kaur from Gohalwar in Amritsar, and Harpal Singh along with Jaskaranbir Singh, both from Dauke village in Amritsar.

Authorities also seized the Maruti Baleno vehicle that the suspects were using.

Preliminary inquiries indicated that the drug trafficking activities were being directed by operatives based in Pakistan and Dubai. The heroin was reportedly transported from the border area of Amritsar and was destined for distribution in Chandigarh, according to Yadav.

Yadav added that an extensive investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network, and additional arrests and seizures are anticipated in the near future.

Providing further details, Kapurthala’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Toora, explained that the police acted on confidential information to set up a tactical operation involving the Phagwara police.

When officers attempted to stop the suspects’ Baleno vehicle, the individuals attempted to evade capture by driving toward the police. Following a high-speed pursuit, officers were compelled to fire at the tires of the vehicle to bring it to a stop, as detailed by the SSP.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the recovery of 16.8 kilograms of heroin, according to the SSP.

An FIR has been filed under Section 21C of the NDPS Act and Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Sadar Phagwara police station, as confirmed by law enforcement officials.
