Urgent: Significant casualties anticipated as Israel launches extensive airstrikes across Lebanon

By the Middle East correspondent

Concerns are rising over the potential loss of hundreds of lives in Lebanon following a series of intense Israeli airstrikes aimed at alleged Hezbollah positions throughout the nation.

The Israel Defense Forces reported that within a brief span of ten minutes on Wednesday, they conducted around 100 separate attacks targeting the Iranian-aligned militant organization.

Significant explosions were documented in various locations across Beirut, including areas far removed from Dahiyeh, which is typically regarded as Hezbollah’s stronghold.

One of the strikes occurred in proximity to the famous Corniche in Beirut.

According to reports from both Israeli and Lebanese media, the Lebanese Red Cross has indicated that the death toll may reach as high as 300, with many individuals sustaining injuries.

The Lebanese Presidential office condemned the strikes as a “new massacre” and described the attacks as “barbaric.”

These assaults were launched shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that the truce involving the United States, Israel, and Iran did not apply to the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, despite claims from Pakistan, the mediator of the agreement, that Lebanon was included in the tenuous ceasefire.

While Israel maintains that its military operations are focused on Hezbollah, the escalating number of civilian casualties highlights the severe impact of these attacks on non-combatants throughout the region.
