The Rajasthan Royals established themselves as a formidable contender in IPL 2026 by defeating the Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in a match held in Guwahati. This victory marked their third consecutive win in the tournament.
While much of the early focus of IPL 2026 has been on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his vital role in the Royals’ batting order during this match. In a brisk 11-over contest against MI, Jaiswal displayed aggressive intent from the very first delivery, asserting himself rather than taking time to settle in. He opened his account with a boundary driven over mid-wicket, followed by a six in the same direction on the very next ball, and added another boundary over point, setting a high tempo for the innings.
Jaiswal’s explosive start continued as he added two more boundaries in the opening over, propelling RR to a swift start. Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi was also finding his rhythm, but Jaiswal appeared determined to seize the spotlight for himself.
Trent Boult, who returned to the lineup after missing the previous match, was also unable to contain the onslaught. The Royals amassed 58 runs in a powerplay that lasted just 3.2 overs, putting significant pressure on the MI bowlers.
Though MI managed to reclaim some control by taking the wickets of Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag, Jaiswal remained steadfast, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 77 runs off 32 balls. His innings was a well-crafted display, featuring four sixes predominantly on the on-side and numerous boundaries on the off-side, coupled with effective strike rotation that included 13 singles.
Despite the focus on the younger talent in the team, Jaiswal reminded fans of his caliber, stepping up as a seasoned player in the absence of Jos Buttler. His performance demonstrated that the Royals possess multiple match-winners at the top of their batting order.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah, one of the premier bowlers globally, has experienced an unusually quiet start to IPL 2026. In the match against RR, he failed to take a wicket for the third consecutive game, conceding 32 runs in three overs. This followed his previous performances of 0/35 against Kolkata Knight Riders and 0/21 against Delhi Capitals.
Bumrah found himself under immediate pressure as Sooryavanshi targeted him early, hitting two sixes in his first over. Despite Hardik Pandya’s efforts to manage his bowling, Bumrah struggled to find his rhythm, with his deliveries lacking precision. The upcoming home match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru presents an opportunity for him to regain his form.
