The family of Harshit Bhatt, a student at Amity University, expressed their sorrow on Wednesday, questioning his decision to enter the water despite knowing how to swim.
At the District Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Noida’s Sector 39, where Harshit’s body was placed in the mortuary, his mother was seen in tears, comforted by relatives who surrounded her.
“He was aware of how to swim, but I can’t comprehend why he chose to swim in such deep water. His friends mentioned that he expressed a desire to go swimming,” a family member shared with The Indian Express.
The relative noted that the group had performed well on their exams and were eager to celebrate, even though they still had some tests remaining. “I don’t understand why they felt the need to celebrate immediately,” the relative added.
A police officer reported that multiple beer bottles were discovered at the scene of the incident. “We are currently conducting an investigation,” the officer stated.
Family members and police revealed that Harshit was with three friends, all of whom were pursuing the same degree. One friend resides in Noida, while the other two are from Delhi.
Harshit has a younger sister, and his father, a retired military officer, was in Jammu on Wednesday and had not been informed about the tragedy until later in the evening, according to relatives. The family is based in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
