The passing of Satish Shah in October of the previous year sent shockwaves throughout the film and television community. A significant number of individuals attended his funeral, followed by a touching prayer gathering where friends and co-workers paid tribute to the actor’s vibrant personality—he was celebrated for his larger-than-life approach to living. Recently, Rajesh Kumar, who collaborated with Shah on the popular series Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, disclosed that the cast united to conduct a pind daan ceremony for him, as both he and his wife did not have any children.
In a conversation with Hindi Rush, Rajesh reflected on Shah’s exuberance, stating, “He was a remarkably spirited individual—full of life. Despite facing various health challenges, he never allowed them to affect his demeanor or his professional commitments. He was on dialysis and had previously undergone a kidney transplant, yet he never exhibited any signs of irritation or frustration. He truly embraced life to the fullest. He drew great inspiration from one of our industry’s legends, Shammi Kapoor, who also faced health issues later in his life but maintained an indomitable spirit. Satish had a profound connection with him, and he consciously chose to hide any vulnerabilities. He never let anyone perceive the struggles he was enduring. Even just four days before his death, when I had a conversation with him, he was cheerful, playful, and radiated warmth.”
Rajesh continued, “To this day, whenever we communicate in the Sarabhai group, we find ourselves reminiscing about him—almost every conversation somehow circles back to him. If he were still with us, he would have been overjoyed to witness the affection Rakesh Bedi is receiving for Dhurandhar. They were contemporaries along with David Dhawan and Rakesh.”
Further expanding on his connection to Shah, Rajesh noted, “I hail from Gaya, a place where people from all over the globe come to perform pind daan. The entire Sarabhai team participated in the pind daan for Satish Shah, given that he did not have children.”
Initially, reports surrounding Shah’s death indicated that it was due to kidney failure. However, Rajesh later clarified in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, “The emotions over the past 24-25 hours have been overwhelming, and it’s tough to articulate. I want to clarify—yes, he had kidney complications, but he actually passed away from a heart attack.”
Satish Shah was deeply cherished for his contributions to both film and television.
