Another midwife faces charges in connection with infant’s death after unsuccessful home delivery.

Jordan Michaela Holland has been indicted for manslaughter following a tragic home birth incident in Newcastle in 2024.

Holland, a private midwife, is the second individual to face charges connected to the infant’s death, with both her and another midwife currently out on bail while their cases are pending in court.

The police report indicates that the 28-year-old attended a residence in Wallsend on October 2, 2024, to assist with the home delivery. Allegations against Holland suggest that she is responsible for the newborn’s demise.

Holland appeared in Newcastle bail court today, where she was released under stringent conditions. According to law enforcement, the home birth attempt lasted two days, during which the mother’s requests for hospital transfer were allegedly disregarded despite encountering complications.

Documents submitted to the court during the bail proceedings revealed that the mother sought medical assistance at John Hunter Hospital on October 4, 2024. The baby boy was born via emergency caesarean section that day but sadly passed away in the hospital on October 10, 2024.

To investigate the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death, authorities established Strike Force Girona.

Judge James Viney sanctioned Holland’s release with specific stipulations, which include prohibitions against engaging in any form of care, education, nursing, or midwifery. She is also restricted from contacting any witnesses involved in the prosecution and cannot apply for a passport. Furthermore, she is required to report to Maitland Police Station weekly.

Another midwife, 36-year-old Oyebola Coxon, has also been charged in connection with the case. In August 2025, she was charged with manslaughter and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm. Like Holland, she is currently out on bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a committal hearing on April 15.
