Tragedy Strikes as Tourist Vessel Overturns in Yamuna River, Mathura, Leaving Six Confirmed Dead and Many Unaccounted For

A tourist boat capsized in the Yamuna River in Vrindavan on Friday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals and leaving several others unaccounted for, according to officials.

District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed the loss of life, noting that all the individuals aboard were from Punjab.

“We have recovered six bodies. So far, we have successfully rescued between sixteen to seventeen people. Search efforts are still active for those who are missing,” the District Magistrate stated.

The vessel was reportedly carrying more than twenty tourists. Rescue efforts are being conducted by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with approximately fifty local divers.

A local diver, named Gulab, reported that around fifteen individuals have been rescued so far, as per officials.

Witnesses recounted that the boat began to rock dangerously in the middle of the river due to strong winds, which caused it to accelerate and collide with a pontoon bridge, leading to its capsizing.

The police and local administration are collaborating on the rescue mission, with divers searching the river’s deeper areas for missing persons. Senior officials, including the district magistrate and the superintendent of police, have arrived at the scene to oversee the operations.
