Blaze at Dabolim Airport in Goa swiftly managed; flight operations remain uninterrupted

A fire incident occurred in the electrical switch room at Goa International Airport in Dabolim on Saturday. Fortunately, the blaze was swiftly extinguished, and no injuries were reported, according to officials. They noted that flight operations were not disrupted, although some passengers in the vicinity of the terminal were relocated to smoke-free areas.

The airport authorities stated that the fire ignited at approximately 11:34 AM in the switch room adjacent to the elevator in the Arrival A2 corridor. Fire response teams were dispatched immediately, and by 11:43 AM, they had successfully brought the fire under control.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a statement confirming that there were no casualties from the incident. They explained that flight operations were unaffected since the fire occurred during NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) hours, and the area was cleared of smoke by the time the first arrival flight landed. Passengers already present in the terminal were moved to smoke-free zones, while airlines were instructed to reassure travelers to remain calm and not to panic. Smoke extraction measures were completed by 12:25 PM, effectively managing the situation.

Dabolim airport operates under the Ministry of Defence as a civil enclave within the military airbase INS Hansa. The Airports Authority of India oversees the international civil enclave, while the Indian Navy provides air traffic control services.
