IPL 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi claims the Orange Cap as Yashasvi Jaiswal falls behind; Dhruv Jurel propels RR to triumph against RCB

Following a downpour in Guwahati, a spectacular display of batting unfolded as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took center stage. The 15-year-old from Bihar showcased his talent by scoring a remarkable half-century in just 15 balls and ultimately finishing with 78 runs off 26 deliveries, propelling the Rajasthan Royals in their pursuit of 202 runs at the ACA Stadium. The Royals successfully reached the target with six wickets in hand and two overs to spare, thanks in part to Dhruv Jurel’s outstanding performance, where he scored 81 runs off 43 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed an undefeated 24 runs.

Sooryavanshi’s influence on the match was profound; when he was dismissed, the Royals only required 73 runs from 71 balls to secure the win. Although Rajasthan lost a couple of wickets shortly after his exit, Jurel played a pivotal role in steering the team towards victory with a composed half-century.

Thanks to Sooryavanshi’s explosive batting, the Rajasthan Royals recorded an impressive 97 runs for the loss of one wicket by the end of the powerplay. This not only marked their highest powerplay score in IPL history but was also the best powerplay score achieved by any team in the current season.

In previous matches of IPL 2026, the opening partnership of Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal had remained unbeaten during the powerplay. However, on this occasion, even after Jaiswal, the holder of the Orange Cap, was dismissed for 13 runs off eight balls, Sooryavanshi continued to dominate the Bengaluru bowlers, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. His performance allowed him to claim the Orange Cap from Jaiswal before his own dismissal.

Prior to the action, the match faced delays due to rain interruptions. In the earlier stages, Rajat Patidar delivered a commendable innings for RCB, scoring 63 runs off 40 balls, which helped the team recover from a precarious position at 125 for 7.

Virat Kohli made a brisk start with 32 runs off 16 balls but was unable to continue building on that momentum. RCB’s innings concluded with a flourish, courtesy of Venkatesh Iyer, who remained not out on 29 runs from 15 balls, and Romario Shepherd, who contributed 22 runs off 11 balls.
