Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for each family affected by the tragic boat accident in Mathura, sourced from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Additionally, he declared a compensation of ₹50,000 for those who sustained injuries in the incident.
On Saturday morning, a religious pilgrimage turned catastrophic when a boat, carrying numerous families primarily from Ludhiana and Jagraon, capsized in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan. The unfortunate event resulted in 10 fatalities, 22 injuries, and five individuals reported missing, according to the news agency PTI.
Expressing his sorrow over the tragedy, the Prime Minister took to his X account to share his condolences. He wrote, “I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is providing assistance to those affected by this incident.”
As reported by PTI, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reached out to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to offer his full support. The Punjab government is reportedly in ongoing communication with Uttar Pradesh officials to coordinate relief efforts effectively.
In his post on X, the Punjab Chief Minister expressed his deep sadness over the incident, stating, “Today, a boat carrying residents from Jagraon for darshan in Vrindavan capsized in the Yamuna River near Mathura, carrying 32 individuals. It is with great sorrow that I must inform you that some devotees have tragically drowned. I am in contact with the Uttar Pradesh government.”
