Authorities in western Sydney have apprehended three individuals who reportedly abandoned a stolen vehicle after a police chase. During the incident, weapons allegedly discovered within the car were confiscated by law enforcement.
According to police reports, at approximately 2:30 PM on Saturday, a white Audi, identified as stolen, was located on the Great Western Highway in Wentworthville. Officers from Strike Force Raptor, a unit established to tackle organized crime, initiated a pursuit to halt the vehicle.
During the chase, witnesses reported seeing the occupants of the car discarding fuel jerry cans onto the M4 Motorway in Silverwater. The police managed to bring the vehicle to a stop by ramming it along Hill Road in Lidcombe, prompting the three men to flee on foot.
With assistance from PolAir and the canine unit, officers pursued the suspects on foot, ultimately leading to their arrest shortly thereafter. Footage obtained by the ABC depicts one of the suspects being taken into custody by multiple officers beneath the motorway where the stolen Audi was halted.
Police claim that a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun were found inside the abandoned vehicle. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the event are currently underway, with authorities expected to release additional details later today.
