On Saturday morning, a significant event took place in contemporary Indian politics as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, greeted each other with namastes and engaged in a discussion while honoring Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, along with other Union ministers when PM Modi arrived at the Prerna Sthal located on the Parliament grounds. The two leaders exchanged pleasantries and held an extended conversation. They, along with additional ministers and officials, welcomed President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan as they arrived to pay their respects to Phule.

Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the esteemed social reformer Phule on his 200th birth anniversary, highlighting his lifelong dedication to principles of equality and social justice. In a blog post, Modi remarked, “The life of the great social reformer Mahatma Phule serves as an inspiring testament to moral courage, introspection, and steadfast commitment to societal welfare.”

On this special occasion, Modi expressed his reverence for Phule, who dedicated his life to the values of equality, justice, and education, and was a pioneer in advocating for the rights of women and marginalized communities. He emphasized that Phule’s efforts transformed education into a powerful tool for empowerment.

Gandhi also acknowledged Phule’s lifelong commitment to protecting the rights of underprivileged communities. He pointed out that Phule’s fight against discrimination and inequality has paved a clear path for the nation toward achieving justice and equality. Gandhi remarked that Phule’s ideals would continue to motivate ongoing endeavors for social justice.
