At the Australian Athletics Championships held in Sydney, Gout Gout showcased an extraordinary performance in the men’s 200-metre final, clocking a remarkable time of 19.67 seconds. This achievement not only earned him the title but also allowed him to surpass his previous national record of 20.02 seconds.

The 18-year-old athlete from Queensland is set to represent Australia at the upcoming U20 World Championships in the United States this August.

In a race that exceeded even his expectations, Gout Gout secured his victory and captured the attention of the international athletics community. This marks the first occasion that he has legally run the distance in under 20 seconds.

Reflecting on his success, Gout expressed his excitement, stating, “I’ve been pursuing this goal ever since I recorded that illegal sub-20 time. It has been on my mind throughout the year… I’m really glad to have accomplished it.” He added, “I had set my sights on 19.75 seconds, and for the past week, I kept telling myself I would run that time. Obviously, I ended up with 19.67, which is fantastic.”

Notably, Lachlan Kennedy withdrew from the 200-metre event after his impressive victory in the 100-metre final the previous night, allowing Gout to shine in the spotlight alone.
