PWD Minister Evaluates Road Conditions with Senior Officials Under ‘Government on Wheels’ Program

On Saturday, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh traveled through South Delhi in a bus, accompanied by senior officials, to evaluate key arterial roads and ongoing road work in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season.

This inspection was part of the Public Works Department’s ‘Government on Wheels’ initiative, which encourages officials from various departments to collaborate and assess significant roads and public areas collectively.

During the visit, Singh remarked, “Visiting these locations firsthand provides a clear perspective. It allows us to observe improvements, identify slow progress, and recognize potential issues that could arise with heavy rainfall.”

The inspection spanned several critical areas, including Moolchand crossing, AIIMS crossing, Chattarpur Metro stretch, Nelson Mandela Marg, Munirka flyover, Vivekanand Marg, BJ Marg, and various underpasses that are particularly vulnerable during monsoon rains.

At multiple sites, Singh exited the bus to inspect drains, desilting efforts, and the condition of the roads. He noted areas where cleaning was incomplete and highlighted potential choke points, issuing directives for swift resolution of these problems.

“These issues are significant. A drain that is only partially cleared or a blocked outlet can disrupt an entire roadway. Our priority is to eliminate all weak points before the rains test our infrastructure,” Singh emphasized.

He further explained, “The approach is simple: identify the problem early, implement quick fixes, and ensure that residents are not burdened by the aftermath.” He also noted that having multiple departments present during the inspections facilitated immediate resolutions regarding overlaps in responsibilities, whether concerning drains, road surfaces, or maintenance duties.

Officials particularly focused on low-lying areas and underpasses, where even brief episodes of intense rainfall can result in waterlogging and traffic congestion. They were instructed to ensure these locations remain operational throughout the peak monsoon period.
