Uttar Pradesh issues weather advisory: Temperatures set to exceed 40°C this week; Prayagraj and Jhansi already hit 37.6°C.

Uttar Pradesh is expected to experience a prolonged dry spell over the next week, leading to a significant increase in temperatures. The mercury in various regions, including the state capital, Lucknow, is anticipated to exceed 40°C. Meteorologists from the Meteorological Centre in Lucknow have indicated that the maximum temperatures could rise by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures may increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during this period.

The trend of rising temperatures is already noticeable. In the last three days, the average maximum temperatures across the state have surged by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. Although many areas still report temperatures below normal levels, experts predict an upward shift in temperatures shortly.

On Saturday, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3°C, which is 1.9°C below the normal average, with a minimum temperature of 18.4°C. Meanwhile, other districts are experiencing even higher temperatures. Prayagraj and Jhansi reported the highest temperatures at 37.6°C, followed closely by Varanasi (BHU) and Orai at 37.4°C. Additional districts such as Sultanpur noted 37.2°C, while Ghazipur and Azamgarh reached 37.0°C. Banda reported 36.8°C, Ballia at 36.5°C, and Barabanki at 36.0°C.

Conversely, central and western parts of Uttar Pradesh saw temperatures in the mid-30s, with Kanpur and Hardoi both at 35.6°C, Gorakhpur at 35.5°C, and Basti at 35.0°C. Comparatively lower temperatures were observed in Bareilly (33.5°C), Moradabad (33.2°C), and Muzaffarnagar (32.0°C), though these areas are also on an upward trajectory, according to experts.

Currently, strong westerly winds, blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h and gusting up to 50 km/h, are providing some daytime relief. However, these winds are expected to diminish after April 12.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that no significant weather systems are likely to impact the state in the upcoming week. With clear skies and dry conditions expected to persist, maximum temperatures are projected to rise further by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius starting Monday.

The combination of weakening winds and continuing dry weather is likely to push temperatures beyond 40°C in many areas of Uttar Pradesh in the coming days, signaling the onset of more severe summer conditions.
