On Sunday at the Ekana Stadium, the Gujarat Titans successfully chased down a target of 165 runs set by the Lucknow Super Giants, securing a victory by 7 wickets. Both Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill displayed impressive performances, each scoring half-centuries; Gill contributed 56 runs, including 6 boundaries and a six, while Buttler scored 60 runs, hitting 11 fours along the way.
For Lucknow, Digvesh Rathi and Prince Yadav took key wickets, with Rathi dismissing Sai Sudharsan for 15 runs and Yadav sending Gill back to the pavilion. Veteran bowler Mohammad Shami also made an impact by capturing Buttler’s wicket in the 16th over. In the latter stages of the innings, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia guided Gujarat to victory in the 19th over.
Prior to the chase, Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler for the Titans, achieving impressive figures of 4 wickets for 24 runs and helping to limit Lucknow to a total of 164 for 8. Lucknow, batting first, saw Aiden Markram as their top scorer with 30 runs off 21 deliveries. However, Mitchell Marsh (11), captain Rishabh Pant (18), and Ayush Badoni (9) fell short of expectations.
Markram started strongly, finding the boundary frequently, including five fours and a six. Marsh also began his innings positively, hitting a six and a four off Kagiso Rabada before being dismissed on the very next ball, caught by Gill. Pant, who came in next, hit a boundary early but was soon dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the fifth over, caught by Tewatia while attempting a big shot.
Markram continued his aggressive approach, hitting back-to-back boundaries off Prasidh in the seventh over, but his innings ended when he was caught by Washington Sundar. Badoni also fell victim to Prasidh, misplaying a pull shot that was caught by Glenn Phillips.
Nicholas Pooran struggled to find his rhythm, scoring 19 runs off 21 balls, although he managed to hit two sixes off Rashid Khan in the 14th over. Abdul Samad (18 off 22) also faced challenges during his innings, while Mukul Choudhary (18 off 14) failed to replicate his previous match performance. George Linde contributed a quick 16 runs off 10 balls. Alongside Prasidh, Ashok Sharma (2/32), Siraj (1/19), and Rabada (1/54) were the other notable wicket-takers for Gujarat.
