Tragedy Strikes at Vadodara Beach: Two Lives Lost and Seven Rescued from Mahisagar River Incident

A group of nine friends from Vadodara set out for a morning excursion to escape the summer heat, but their outing turned tragic when two young men drowned in the Mahisagar River at a location known as Kotna Beach on Monday. The group, all local residents, decided to take a swim in the river, but strong currents quickly overwhelmed them.

Local authorities reported that while seven members of the group were successfully rescued by nearby residents and emergency services, two individuals tragically lost their lives. Some of the rescued individuals were able to swim and managed to support each other during the incident. The victims were identified as Jay Joglekar, aged 22, and Krishna Vijay Rajput, aged 23. Responding to the scene were officials from the Nandesari police station and fire department personnel, who later recovered the bodies and transported them to Gotri Hospital for autopsies.

Jay Joglekar was notably the son of a local BJP party member. Following the incident, several political leaders, including MLA Balkrishna Shukla, visited the hospital to offer their condolences to the grieving family.

This unfortunate event has reignited discussions about the dangers of swimming in rivers, a concern highlighted by similar incidents in the past. A senior officer from the Vadodara rural police commented on the rising number of people flocking to water bodies as temperatures increase, despite numerous warnings and awareness campaigns regarding the risks of swimming in turbulent rivers. In light of the recent tragedy, authorities have registered an accidental death case.
