On Sunday, Ukraine executed a coordinated drone strike aimed at the Primorsk port, which is a key export facility in northwest Russia, according to a report by Reuters. Primorsk, situated along the Baltic Sea, has the capability to process up to 1 million barrels of oil daily. This attack follows earlier Russian drone and missile assaults on Ukraine that resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals.
Regional Governor Alexander Drozdenko informed news agency DW that the fire caused by the attack was extinguished, and there were no reported oil spills. He also noted that over 60 drones had been intercepted in the region, as shared on the Telegram app.
In recent months, Ukraine has targeted Russian energy facilities with drone strikes to undermine the Russian economy and disrupt fuel supplies to its military forces.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that Ukraine had successfully struck two shadow fleet tankers near the entrance of the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. These aged vessels had been utilized to transport Russia’s sanctioned oil globally. “These tankers were actively involved in oil transportation — that is no longer the case,” Zelenskyy stated on Telegram.
On the same day, Zelenskyy arrived in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, in preparation for the European Political Community summit scheduled for the following day. He mentioned on X, “Many meetings are on the agenda. Our primary focus is enhancing security and coordination for all.”
During discussions at the Yerevan summit, Zelenskyy proposed that a pact akin to the “Drone Deal” could strengthen relations between Ukraine and Finland, expressing gratitude to the Norwegian Prime Minister for supporting Ukraine.
Moscow’s Defence Ministry reported that Ukraine launched a total of 334 drones against Russia overnight, while Kyiv’s air force stated that Russia retaliated with 268 drones and one ballistic missile targeting Ukraine.
According to regional officials, a Ukrainian drone strike near Moscow resulted in one fatality. In Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, critical for exports, two individuals lost their lives due to attacks, as reported by Regional Governor Oleg Kiper, who also mentioned damage to port infrastructure. Furthermore, a separate Russian strike in the frontline area of Kherson, southern Ukraine, resulted in the death of another individual, officials confirmed.
