“Babil Khan Opens Up About His Struggles and Healing Journey Before Making His Bollywood Comeback; Expert Highlights the Value of Taking a Break”

Babil Khan’s recent return to his professional commitments, following a hiatus for mental health reasons, has sparked a significant dialogue surrounding emotional wellness, recovery, and the challenges posed by high-pressure work environments. After taking a step back from public life during a challenging period, the actor has shared updates from the filming of his latest project.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Babil expressed his gratitude, saying, “As I embark on the second phase of shooting, I want to take a moment to convey my love for you and recognize the importance of your support. I strive diligently to ensure that every moment you spend watching me is worthwhile. I look forward to connecting with you on your screens very soon.” This post received a warm response from fans, many of whom celebrated his candidness and welcomed his return to the industry.

Babil’s comeback comes after a tumultuous time that garnered public attention last year. In May 2025, he appeared in a video where he expressed his emotional struggles with the Bollywood industry, describing it as “screwed” and “fake.” Although his statements led to widespread discussion, he later clarified that his words were misinterpreted. Following this, he temporarily deactivated his Instagram account, prompting his family and team to release a statement regarding the matter.

When Babil returned to social media in October, he provided a more intimate account of his experiences, sharing his battle with depression through a candid note. He reflected, “I didn’t intend to eavesdrop; this glass house has thin walls. I wore my emotions openly, now I’m left with bloodstained shirts. I needed time to heal. My struggles have left me with deep scars. Insomnia and anxiety led me to make strange confessions. I was reaching out for help; I couldn’t suppress my feelings. The toll on my health was significant, and my spirit was weary from repression…”

Psychologist Rasshi Gurnani told indianexpress.com, “A true willingness to return to work after a mental health break is less about feeling ‘normal’ and more about achieving stability, self-regulation, and self-awareness. Psychologically, signs of being ready include improved emotional control, stress management without feeling overwhelmed, better sleep quality, and regained cognitive clarity, such as focus and decision-making. There should also be a sense of agency—choosing to return rather than feeling driven by guilt, fear, or external pressure.”

She further explained that if someone is still in the healing process but feels compelled to go back to work, they may experience ongoing fatigue, irritability, anxiety spikes, avoidance behaviors, or dread towards their responsibilities. Genuine healing indicates internal readiness, while pressure signifies external compulsion.

According to Gurnani, stepping away from high-stress environments is vital for recovery, particularly in cases of depression, anxiety disorders, insomnia, or burnout. “Creating distance allows for mental and physical stabilization and alleviates cognitive and emotional strain. It’s essential to gradually and intentionally rebuild routines,” she advised.

Clinically, this process can be approached through behavioral activation in small, manageable increments—starting with basic structures like sleep, nutrition, and light tasks, and then slowly reintroducing responsibilities. The expert emphasizes, “It’s crucial to pace oneself, set practical expectations, and include restorative practices like therapy, physical activity, or mindfulness, rather than trying to immediately revert to previous levels of functioning.”
