Sri Lanka’s currency has experienced a continued decline in value against the US dollar, with the selling rate surpassing Rs. 324 for the first time in more than two years.
As of today, June 6, the purchasing rate of the US dollar was recorded at Rs. 316.40, while the selling rate increased to Rs. 324.03. This marks the first occasion the selling rate has gone beyond Rs. 324 since January 24, 2024. Notably, the buying rate also exceeded Rs. 316 yesterday, marking the first instance since January 18, 2024.
Today, the SPOT exchange rate was noted at Rs. 319.78, having peaked at Rs. 319.93 on Monday, June 4, before dipping slightly to Rs. 319.51 yesterday.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has indicated that the rupee has depreciated by 2.9% against the US dollar as of April 30, 2026. These recent fluctuations highlight increasing pressures on the local currency due to changing market dynamics.
