Arrest Made in Oklahoma Shooting Incident at Party, Resulting in One Fatality and 22 Injuries

Authorities reported on Wednesday that an 18-year-old has been apprehended in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to 22 others during a party near a lake in Oklahoma over the weekend.

Police from the suburb of Edmond, located near Oklahoma City, have identified the suspect as Jaylan Amhad Davis. He faces charges related to the shooting that occurred on Sunday night, which escalated from a dispute between two women into a confrontation involving rival gang members. According to law enforcement, over 80 rounds were discharged during the incident.

Davis is currently charged with assault with a deadly weapon, with plans to elevate the charge to felony murder, as stated by Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger in a press briefing. His bail has been set at $1 million, according to jail documentation. The deceased victim has been identified as 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray.

At this time, it remains unclear whether Davis has legal representation available to comment on his situation.

Chief Younger indicated that Davis surrendered to authorities on Wednesday morning after they issued an arrest warrant. Investigators believe there may be at least one additional suspect involved.

“Our aim is to secure justice for the 23 individuals who were shot, including the one who lost their life, as well as for those involved in the incident. It is crucial that we do not vilify or divide the parties involved,” Younger remarked.

Initial reports of gunfire were received around 9 p.m. on Sunday. The shooting occurred at Arcadia Lake, a well-known location for boating, fishing, and swimming, situated just 13 miles north of Oklahoma City. Among the injured, six victims are juveniles, with some as young as 15 years old, according to Chief Younger.

The party, which attracted a significant number of mostly young attendees from the Oklahoma City region, had been advertised on social media. Law enforcement noted that the event’s organizers did not obtain the required permits for such gatherings, and the shooting coincided with officers responding to a noise complaint related to the party.
