A federal judge made public an alleged suicide note attributed to Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday, marking its first disclosure to the public.
The note was reportedly discovered by Epstein’s cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City. This incident occurred after Epstein’s unsuccessful suicide attempt in July 2019, just weeks before he was found dead in his cell.
The content of the note includes a statement expressing frustration over a prolonged investigation: “They investigated me for months — FOUND NOTHING!!!” It continues with a defiant tone, stating, “It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!”
Notably, the note does not bear a signature, and The Guardian has not verified its authenticity as being penned by Epstein. The Department of Justice has yet to respond to The Guardian’s request for comments regarding the note.
This document was unsealed following a report by the New York Times, which highlighted the note’s existence and subsequently filed a petition in a White Plains, New York court for its release.
