Dylan de Prada, aged 28, has been charged with multiple offenses in connection with the stabbing of a 53-year-old woman in Wangaratta on Wednesday. The victim is currently hospitalized in Melbourne, where she is in critical condition due to several skull fractures.<\/p>\n
Following a failed bail application, Mr. de Prada was remanded in custody. He faces potential charges of attempted murder after allegedly severing part of the woman’s ear and causing severe head injuries during a confrontation.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Mr. de Prada appeared before the Wangaratta Magistrates Court facing seven charges, which include intentionally causing serious injury and unlawful assault. This incident has left the woman fighting for her life at a medical facility in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
According to information presented by Victoria Police, the altercation occurred around 7:20 AM at a social housing complex in Wangaratta, where an argument escalated. The court heard that the victim sustained numerous injuries, including deep cuts to her arms and feet, a significant laceration extending from her eye to her ear, and the complete severing of a three-centimeter section of her ear. Additionally, she suffered a spinal fracture in her neck and multiple skull fractures, placing her in a critical state at Alfred Hospital.<\/p>\n
Police indicated that Mr. de Prada might face attempted murder charges, although the victim is expected to survive the assault.<\/p>\n
The court was informed that Mr. de Prada had resided in the Wangaratta social housing unit for at least six months. Senior Constable Patton reported that a witness observed Mr. de Prada behaving erratically, including jumping over fences in search of cigarette butts shortly before the incident. Neighbors had previously expressed concerns about his disruptive and intimidating behavior.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, it was revealed that Mr. de Prada was known to law enforcement and owned various weapons, such as a bow and swords, although their current location is unknown. He was apprehended approximately two kilometers from the housing complex around 9 AM on the day of the incident.<\/p>\n
During police questioning, Mr. de Prada reportedly mentioned his frequent drug use, including ice, and stated that he had not slept for several days prior to the incident. In court, he reiterated his plea for bail, asserting that everyone has the right to feel safe. “I think just that should be a God-given right,” he remarked, adding that he believed he needed to be in a better situation than incarceration.<\/p>\n
