Muslim minorities account for 12.6%, while Other Castes make up 13.3%.<\/p>\n Despite their substantial numbers, 135 distinct castes\u2014including 69 BCs, 41 SCs, and 25 STs\u2014are identified as being more disadvantaged than previously recognized. The Other Castes, although they represent only 13.3% of the population, disproportionately occupy a significant portion of private sector employment, educational resources, and typically enjoy higher wages and living standards.<\/p>\n Advancements in English Education<\/strong><\/p>\n Since Telangana’s formation as an independent state in June 2014, the government has devoted considerable resources to enhancing education, particularly focusing on English-medium instruction. Initiatives such as Mana Vooru Mana Badi (Our Village, Our School) have improved school facilities, introduced digital classrooms teaching in English, and upgraded amenities like sanitation and drinking water. Teacher training programs have also seen substantial investment.<\/p>\n Over the past decade, this educational reform has led to a marked generational change, with 60.5% of individuals aged 6\u201329 now receiving education in English, compared to just 35.3% learning in Telugu. This shift is especially evident in urban centers and among wealthier demographics.<\/p>\n However, economic vulnerability persists as a prominent concern, with 44.4% of households reporting outstanding loans primarily for agricultural needs, as well as for weddings, health emergencies, and educational purposes.<\/p>\n Rural Debt and Economic Pressures<\/strong><\/p>\n Agriculture remains a critical factor in rural debt, with 56.7% of rural borrowers securing loans for farming-related expenses. Additionally, 6.8% of these individuals have turned to moneylenders, and 7% have borrowed for personal events or medical emergencies, a trend more common among marginalized groups.<\/p>\n Medical-related loans pose a significant financial strain, with 10.5% of all loans in the state taken out for health expenses, rising to 16.2% among Scheduled Caste households.<\/p>\n In terms of credit sources, scheduled banks are responsible for 41.6% of loans, while informal lenders still play a role, accounting for 9.5% of borrowing.<\/p>\n Increase in Female-Headed Households<\/strong><\/p>\n Notably, 25.1% of households in Telangana are led by women, highlighting the increasing influence of women in household financial management and decision-making, especially in rural settings.<\/p>\n Housing Disparities: Urban Renters vs. Rural Owners<\/strong><\/p>\n A stark contrast is evident between urban and rural living conditions. In rural regions, approximately 74.7% of households own their residences, while 53.15% of urban residents rent, a reflection of high migration rates and rising property costs. A small segment, 1.08%, of the statewide population is reported as homeless.<\/p>\n Shift from Traditional Occupations<\/strong><\/p>\n Telangana is moving away from its conventional economic practices, as 64.4% of rural inhabitants report abandoning traditional vocations. This change signals a broader trend towards daily wage labor and employment in the service sector. Only 43.4% of the population is currently engaged in formal employment, while the remainder consists of students, homemakers, or unemployed individuals.<\/p>\n The ownership of land remains elusive for many, with just 14.3% of the total population holding land. The Other Castes exhibit the highest ownership at 31.5%, followed by Scheduled Castes at 16.5%. Among landowners, 39.5% rely solely on rain-fed agriculture, and 27.9% utilize borewells.<\/p>\n While the overall migration rate stands at a modest 1.1%, certain districts serve as key international migration hotspots. Nizamabad (93.9%), Nirmal (85.9%), and Jagtial (82.1%) see a majority of their migrants heading abroad, with the Gulf countries (41.9%) and the United States (17.8%) being the primary destinations.<\/p>\n Social Security and Caste Certification<\/strong><\/p>\n The possession of caste certificates, which are necessary for accessing government services, is reported at 47.8% statewide. The rates are notably higher among Scheduled Tribes (59.9%) and Scheduled Castes (61.5%), while only 24.5% of the Other Castes possess such documentation.<\/p>\n Furthermore, 94.3% of households state that their members can freely attend places of worship, such as temples, mosques, or churches.<\/p>\n Inter-Caste Marriages<\/strong><\/p>\n The survey also highlights an increase in inter-caste marriages across various communities, indicating a gradual trend towards social integration.
