On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized his West Bengal counterpart, claiming that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is disseminating false information regarding the consumption of meat and fish. He emphasized that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumes power, the only limitation would pertain to beef consumption and the smuggling of cattle.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an election rally in Cooch Behar district, Sarma remarked, \u201cIn Assam, even under BJP governance, there are no restrictions on consuming fish and meat. You can freely enjoy these foods in regions like Dhubri or Goalpara. Why is Mamata Didi misleading the public by stating that a BJP government in Bengal would prohibit fish and meat consumption?\u201d<\/p>\n
He invited Mamata Banerjee to visit Assam, assuring her that she would be treated to mutton and chicken. Sarma pointed out that the BJP has governed Assam for a decade, during which no complaints about restrictions on fish, meat, or the animal sacrifices at Maa Kamakhya Temple have been reported. He suggested that Banerjee’s concerns stem from the potential cessation of the beef trade in Bengal if BJP comes to power, accusing the TMC of wanting to maintain cattle smuggling to Bangladesh for financial gain. He reiterated that a BJP-led government would put an end to such practices.<\/p>\n
Sarma also discussed the BJP’s vision for stricter governance in West Bengal, particularly regarding illegal immigration and border security. \u201cOur government in Assam has successfully prevented illegal occupation of land by Bangladeshi Muslims, reclaiming 150,000 acres of encroached land. We must ensure a BJP victory in Bengal to continue this effort. Those we evict from Assam find refuge in Bengal, as welcomed by Mamata ji,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He expressed concerns about the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh, questioning whether the people of West Bengal desire a similar fate. Sarma warned that if the TMC and Banerjee remain in power, conditions could deteriorate significantly over the next two decades. He asserted that Bengal requires a government capable of addressing the challenges posed by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and emphasized the necessity of ending TMC rule for survival.<\/p>\n
In reference to the BJP’s achievements in Uttar Pradesh, Sarma highlighted the completion of the Ram Mandir, indicating that while it took time, it was successfully built. He clarified that the BJP does not oppose the citizens of India but rather focuses on the issue of illegal immigrants who are altering the demographic balance and undermining Hindu culture. He mentioned a statement by Humayun Kabir regarding the construction of a Babri Masjid replica in Bengal, reminding that Bengal is the land of Tagore, not Babur.<\/p>\n
Discussing the benefits of BJP governance in Assam, Sarma noted that government employees receive a 50 percent dearness allowance, in stark contrast to the 22 percent received by West Bengal employees, despite the latter being a larger state. He also mentioned a new initiative that provides women in Assam with essential commodities such as pulses, sugar, salt, and mustard oil for free. Furthermore, he stated that all college and university-going girls in Assam receive Rs 2,500 for their education, while boys receive Rs 2,000 monthly. Additionally, the government has waived all micro loans taken by women.<\/p>\n
Concluding his speech, Sarma urged voters to support the BJP, asserting that the party has successfully prevented infiltration from Bangladesh in Assam and Tripura. \u201cSupport us once, and we will halt infiltration in Bengal as well,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
