In recent developments, Minnesota prosecutors have filed assault charges against an ICE agent, alleging that he brandished his firearm at individuals in a vehicle on a Minneapolis highway in February. This marks the first instance of legal action taken against an ICE officer in connection with the immigration enforcement policies of the Trump administration in Minnesota.<\/p>\n
The agent in question stated to state investigators that he acted out of a fear for his own safety.<\/p>\n
Before taking on the role of acting chief of ICE in March 2025, Todd Lyons served as the executive associate director of the agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division. In that capacity, he was responsible for leading initiatives aimed at apprehending and deporting individuals who entered the U.S. unlawfully, as noted in his official biography.<\/p>\n
Lyons has held various positions within the Enforcement and Removal Operations division, including assistant director of field operations and deputy assistant director for western operations and the southwest border, among others.
