Tim Tszyu has secured the WBO international middleweight title following a decisive unanimous decision victory over Albanian boxer Denis Nurja. The match, which took place on Sunday in Wollongong, showcased Tszyu’s dominance as he triumphed on all three judges’ scorecards with a score of 100-88.<\/p>\n
This win not only earned Tszyu the WBO international middleweight title but also kept him on track for a potential high-stakes bout against American boxing star Errol Spence Jr., along with another opportunity to compete for a world title.<\/p>\n
In this 10-round contest, Tszyu’s performance was marked by an effective mix of head and body shots, leading to a significant advantage over Nurja. He managed to knock Nurja down in the fourth round, although he was unable to secure a knockout despite his thorough control of the fight.<\/p>\n
After the match, Tszyu commented on Nurja’s resilience, stating, “He’s a tough man. I had him a couple of times, but he just didn’t drop.\u201d A clash of heads during the fourth round resulted in a cut under Tszyu’s left eye, which required stitching after the fight.<\/p>\n
Despite the injury, Tszyu continued to apply pressure, delivering numerous punishing body shots throughout the fifth round. He effectively alternated his attacks and responded vigorously whenever Nurja managed to land a punch. In the seventh round, referee Les Fear penalized Nurja by deducting a point for an infringement.<\/p>\n
When asked about the anticipated matchup with Spence, Tszyu expressed confidence, saying, \u201cI feel like I’m up for it. It will be one hell of a fight, a banger. You know how I am; I don’t take a backward step. You know what they say, ‘Catch the big fish’ \u2014 let’s go fishing.\u201d<\/p>\n
With this victory, Tszyu, who holds a record of 27 wins and 3 losses with 18 knockouts, has achieved consecutive wins for the first time since 2023. Additionally, he has attained the No. 1 ranking in the junior middleweight division of the WBO.
