A local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala has been charged for purportedly distributing household item kits to sway voters in the lead-up to the Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.<\/p>\n
According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, a flying squad in Thrissur district intercepted unauthorized distribution of these kits, valued at Rs 900 each, near the Parthasarathy temple in Olari on Saturday. The enforcement team discovered that the kits, containing various household essentials, were being handed out in a nearby community. Before officials arrived, approximately 100 kits had reportedly been given out.<\/p>\n
Following a complaint lodged by Executive Magistrate Bindu T N, law enforcement filed a First Information Report (FIR) against BJP leader Radhakrishnan. Investigators indicated that the distribution of the kits occurred under his direction.<\/p>\n
The FIR was filed under sections 170(1)(1) and 173 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as section 123(A)(1) of the Representation of the People Act.<\/p>\n
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office stated, \u201cDue to the non-cognizable nature of these offenses, we obtained the required prior approval from the jurisdictional magistrate to initiate formal legal proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n
The BJP has nominated Padmaja Venugopal as its candidate for the Thrissur constituency.<\/p>\n
