Shami delivered an impressive bowling performance, achieving figures of 2 for 9, including an impressive tally of 18 dot balls, contributing to LSG’s five-wicket win.<\/p>\n
“Staying connected to the game is crucial if you want to perform well. Being fit enables a player to refine their skills, which is why I consistently participated in domestic matches,” he stated.<\/p>\n
At 35, Shami faced difficulties during the 2025 IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad after returning from an injury, managing only 6 wickets over 9 matches with a high economy rate of 11.23.<\/p>\n
“I am not a machine, and my performance can fluctuate. I have had strong seasons in the past that may have gone unnoticed. Nonetheless, I always strive to excel,” he remarked when discussing last season’s challenges.<\/p>\n
Shami emphasized the importance of teamwork, particularly in his relationship with Bharat, expressing their long-standing partnership within the Indian team, which has fostered a strong understanding. “It’s vital for players and staff to have a good rapport,” he added.<\/p>\n
On his connection with Lucknow, he described it as his second home, noting that he quickly acclimates to the environment.<\/p>\n
Shami, who took the crucial wickets of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, highlighted that adjusting his pace was essential for success. “The pitch here has consistently been slow and somewhat sticky. Thus, maintaining a precise line and length with the new ball is crucial,” he explained.<\/p>\n
“We understood that providing width or delivering within their hitting zone would allow both batsmen to score freely. Therefore, reducing pace and limiting elevation was paramount,” he continued.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the team’s need to recover from a previous loss, Shami expressed satisfaction with their latest win, stating that it was vital for building momentum.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that physical fitness is essential for honing cricketing skills, which is why he prioritized participation in domestic games to maintain his rhythm.<\/p>\n
The experienced bowler also underscored the significance of both skill and experience in high-level cricket. “Without either, success is hard to achieve,” he noted.<\/p>\n
Shami stressed the necessity of adapting to different playing conditions, revealing that he intentionally integrated slower deliveries into his strategy after observing their effectiveness in prior matches.<\/p>\n
Recalling his past experiences at the venue with SRH, he decided to employ more variations, particularly slower balls, inspired by their successful use by opposing bowlers. “Adaptation is key. I used a lot of slower deliveries last year, and seeing opponents utilize them made me think we should do the same,” he said.<\/p>\n
Discussing his approach, Shami stated, “I focus on my work and leave the rest to Allah. Whether it’s IPL or any significant platform, honing skills is essential. It ultimately comes down to how diligently you work with both the new and old balls.” <\/p>\n
