The esteemed Chetak Screen Awards took place on Sunday in Mumbai, celebrating outstanding achievements in both film and digital streaming platforms. Shalini Vatsa was recognized with the Chetak Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Homebound,” triumphing over a competitive field of nominees. Other contenders in this category included Divya Dutta for “Chhaava,” Sheeba Chadha for “Haq,” Dolly Ahluwalia for “Sitaare Zameen Par,” and Manjiri Pupala for “Superboys Of Malegaon.”<\/p>\n
Vicky Kaushal presented the award during the lavish event, which featured Bollywood luminaries such as Alia Bhatt, along with comedians Zakir Khan and Sunil Grover, and prominent journalist Saurabh Dwivedi, who serves as the Editor for Hindi at The Indian Express.<\/p>\n
Established by The Indian Express Group, the Chetak Screen Awards emphasize merit, integrity, and respect from peers in the industry. The nominees and winners were determined by the Screen Academy, an independent non-profit organization composed of 53 respected filmmakers, artists, and cultural figures.<\/p>\n
Notable members of the Screen Academy include Shoojit Sircar, Deepa Mehta, Sriram Raghavan, Ram Madhvani, Guneet Monga Kapoor, John Abraham, Kabir Khan, Karan Johar, Mukesh Chhabra, Payal Kapadia, Prosenjit Chatterjee, RS Prasanna, Rajiv Menon, Rajkumar Hirani, Resul Pookutty, Rima Das, and Vidya Balan, among others.<\/p>\n
The nomination process began with a preliminary shortlist, followed by a voting procedure undertaken by the Screen Academy to evaluate the films. Dr. Priya Jaikumar, Chair of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and a scholar-in-residence at the Screen Academy, was instrumental in creating a comprehensive scoring rubric for the Academy members.<\/p>\n
