The Chetak Screen Awards 2026, which celebrated the finest achievements in Hindi cinema and OTT platforms, took place on Sunday in Mumbai. During this prestigious event, Akshaye Khanna was awarded the Chetak Screen Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) for his performance in the film Dhurandhar.<\/p>\n
Khanna’s victory came amidst a competitive field that featured notable performances from Rakesh Bedi in Dhurandhar, Naseeruddin Shah in Gustaakh Ishq, Saurabh Shukla in Jolly LLB 3, and Deepak Dobriyal in Jugnuma: The Fable.<\/p>\n
Although the award was presented by Raj Babbar, Khanna was not in attendance at the ceremony. The event was hosted by prominent figures including Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, comedians Zakir Khan and Sunil Grover, as well as Saurabh Dwivedi, the Hindi editor for The Indian Express.<\/p>\n
The Chetak Screen Awards were established by The Indian Express Group, with nominees and winners chosen by the Screen Academy, an independent, nonprofit organization comprising 53 distinguished filmmakers, artists, and cultural figures.<\/p>\n
Members of the Screen Academy included notable personalities such as Prosenjit Chatterjee, RS Prasanna, Rajiv Menon, Rajkumar Hirani, Resul Pookutty, Shoojit Sircar, Deepa Mehta, Sriram Raghavan, Ram Madhvani, Guneet Monga Kapoor, John Abraham, Kabir Khan, Karan Johar, Mukesh Chhabra, Payal Kapadia, Rima Das, and Vidya Balan, among others.<\/p>\n
Dr. Priya Jaikumar, who heads the Cinema and Media Studies program at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts and serves as a scholar-in-residence at the Screen Academy, significantly contributed by creating a comprehensive rubric for members to utilize during the evaluation process. Following an initial round of shortlisting, the Screen Academy conducted a voting process to assess the films.<\/p>\n
