Indian Railways has lifted speed limitations on a significant segment of the Mumbai-Nagpur rail line in Maharashtra, allowing for quicker train services. This decision is part of a broader initiative to enhance infrastructure, prioritize safety, and improve train speeds across the network.<\/p>\n
The removal of the speed limit was made possible by the completion of Through Formation Treatment (TFTR) work on the Up line of the Asvali-Padli segment. Dr. Swapnil Nila, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, explained to Indianexpress.com that this section is located within the Bhusaval Division and is crucial to the Mumbai-Nagpur route. \u201cThe speed restriction, which spanned nearly 800 meters, had a significant impact on travel time,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Previously, a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 75 km\/h had been enforced for an extended period between kilometers 160.57 and 160.13, necessitating ongoing oversight, especially during the monsoon season.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project faced substantial difficulties due to the area’s semi-ghat terrain, which limited accessibility. The track formation rises roughly 9 meters and includes a curve of 2.26 degrees. Given these challenges, the work was strategically scheduled for after the monsoon season in 2025,\u201d the railway authorities stated.<\/p>\n
During the financial year 2025-26, Central Railway conducted a total of 8,840 journeys on special trains, including 348 dedicated for festivals. Plans are also in place to operate 2,169 Summer Special trains from April 15 to July 31, with 1,359 of these services catering to Maharashtra, while the remainder will serve other regions.<\/p>\n
