A burglary at the residence of Madhya Pradesh’s Sports Minister, Vishvas Sarang, in Bhopal has sparked renewed concerns regarding security in a highly monitored area of the city. Intruders managed to break into a storeroom and make off with six trophies, according to police reports.<\/p>\n
The break-in occurred during the night of April 2, and it was discovered the next morning when security personnel found the storeroom’s lock had been tampered with. Officials noted that this particular room was not equipped with CCTV cameras.<\/p>\n
On April 6, a formal complaint was filed at the TT Nagar police station by Pravin Saxena, the minister’s personal assistant. Police station chief Gaurav Singh Dohar confirmed the filing of the case and mentioned that investigators are reviewing footage from nearby cameras to track down the suspects. Authorities believe that the burglars might have conducted prior surveillance, given that they targeted a storage area outside the main residence. The lack of direct surveillance has made the investigation more challenging, requiring officers to depend on external CCTV recordings from the vicinity.<\/p>\n
“The storeroom held shields which are believed to be mementoes. We have assembled a team to pursue the investigation,” stated Dohar. “Unfortunately, there was no CCTV coverage in that specific area.”<\/p>\n
An FIR has been filed against unknown individuals, and a special investigation team has been established. Sub-inspector Raghvendra Sikarwar, who is overseeing the inquiry, indicated that the case is being explored from various perspectives.<\/p>\n
There have been similar incidents in high-security neighborhoods of the state capital, such as 74 Bungalows and Char Imli, in recent years. In August 2024, thieves stole cash and jewelry from the home of Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh in Char Imli, who is the son of former chief minister Digvijaya Singh. In December 2020, an attempt was made to illegally harvest sandalwood from the residence of then PWD minister Gopal Bhargava in the 74 Bungalows area.<\/p>\n
In another alarming event, masked robbers targeted the residence of Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari in Indore on the night of September 5, 2025.
