Sanjay Mishra, the secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), verified that these top-ranked players, currently positioned in the Top 5, will miss the competition in Ningbo, which begins on Tuesday. The pair last competed in March but had to withdraw from the Swiss Open held in Basel.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the women\u2019s doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will also not be present, as confirmed by Mishra. This duo has been largely absent from tournaments since their withdrawal from the Swiss Open, with Treesa dealing with shoulder problems.<\/p>\n
With the absence of Satwik and Chirag, the focus shifts to Lakshya Sen, who is ranked 12th in the world for singles. He is set to face Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong in his opening match. Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty, currently ranked 25th, has a challenging match ahead against local favorite and fifth seed Li Shifeng. Kidambi Srikanth, who showed strong performance at the recent Asian Team Championships, will be up against Loh Kean Yew once again, marking five years since their last encounter where Srikanth faced defeat at the World Championships. HS Prannoy will be competing against a qualifier, while Srikanth looks to recover from their last match, which he lost 21-13, 21-15.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s singles category, PV Sindhu, who has improved her ranking to 13th, leads a group of four Indian players. She will compete against Malaysia’s Wong Ching Ling, with the potential of facing All England champion Wang Zhi Yi next. Malvika Bansod will take on Busanan Ongbamrungphan, and the 34th-ranked Tanvi Sharma is optimistic about her match against Letshanaa Karupathevan.
