Courtney Lawes, the former captain of the England rugby team, is set to make his return to the Premiership at the conclusion of the current season, following a two-year stint with French club Brive.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old player announced his retirement from international rugby after the 2023 Rugby World Cup and transitioned to Brive after securing the Premiership title with Northampton Saints in the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n
While the specific English club he will join remains unconfirmed, his return would render him eligible for selection for the national team once again. Brive expressed their desire for Lawes to conclude his career with them but also acknowledged his ambition to pursue new challenges.<\/p>\n
Thierry Blandini\u00e8res, the president of Brive, expressed pride in having Lawes as part of the team for two seasons, remarking on his humility and ambition upon joining. Blandini\u00e8res stated, \u201cCourtney has showcased his considerable talent from day one and has given everything for the club. He will continue to do so until the end of his time with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The club further emphasized their pride in having hosted one of rugby’s legends and one of the finest back-row forwards of his era.<\/p>\n
Lawes dedicated 17 years to Northampton Saints, during which he secured two Premiership titles and two Challenge Cup victories. He earned 105 caps for England and celebrated three Six Nations championships, in addition to participating in four Rugby World Cups, where he finished as a runner-up in 2019 and claimed third place in 2023.<\/p>\n
